The following tips may help you recover more quickly from your depression:

  • You will get better. Just try to believe it, because it is true
  • Accept the fact that you are feeling bad and don’t worry about it.
  • If you can’t sleep, go for a walk if possible, or get on the exercise bike, or read, or write down what’s bothering you
  • Write down your feelings every time they pop up
  • Enjoy the good moments – don’t feel guilty about it
  • Imagine yourself being well in a year’s time
  • Concentrate on your breathing every time you remember. Try and breathe slowly and evenly.
  • When you are having a bad feeling, try and detach yourself from it. Observe the feeling from a distance.
  • Do some deep relaxation, whenever it is possible. Take the opportunity to try some constructive self-hypnosis.
  • Learn about CBT and develop your own personal programmes. This may include measurements cores, charts, situation analysis.
  • If you get an anxiety attack, take ten slow, deep breaths. Concentrate on what caused the attack and analyse the rationale. After the attack do a quick strenuous stint of exercise to “use up” the stress hormones that the attack caused. Like doing 20 star jumps or, sprinting on the spot.
